Current Research

In graduate school, my research focuses on the use and applications of virtual reality tools to investigate human factors problems. I am especially interested in studying worker safety and patient care tasks, and potential room for improvement here with the use of virtual reality.

Past Projects

Community-Based Participatory Design

As a first year PhD student, I took a human factors psychology course. As a semester-long project, I worked to develop a usable, interactive database for a historic cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina. I worked closely with a community organization to ensure primary stakeholder needs were met.

Undergraduate Honors Thesis

Perception & Action Lab

During my junior and senior year at Rice University, I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Patricia DeLucia’s Perception & Action Lab. I assisted in creating materials for experiment trials and collected data from 50+ participants for experiment investigating road user perception

NSF REU

In the summer of 2023, I was selected to participate in the Vanderbilt Biomedical Informatics Summer Program, a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates program.

Under the direction of Dr. Shilo Anders and Dr. Megan Salwei, I developed visual representation of breast cancer patient care journeys as part of a larger study aimed to investigate themes in these processes.

I presented this work at the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society Healthcare conference in March 2024.

Human Factors Lab

As a junior at Rice University, I worked in Dr. Philip Kortum’s Human Factors Lab. I assisted a graduate student with dissertation research related to usability assessment.

Gulf Scholars Program

I was selected for the Gulf Scholars Program in my second year of college. This climate-justice focused initiative was funded by the National Academies of Sciences and Medicine.

Alongside my cohort, I developed an interactive storymap and advocacy toolkit designed to empower low-income Houston communities and provide knowledge and resources related to flooding.

Gulf Scholars

During my senior year at Rice University, I conducted an honors thesis titled "Usability Assessment of Hospital Discharge Instructions." I investigated whether various dimensions of hospital discharge instruction paperwork impacted the usability of these documents.

I collected data from 50+ participants and conducted statistical analyses. This manuscript is currently under review for publication.
